Ingredients

  • ½ cup butter
  • 3/8 cup shortening
  • 5 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 tablespoon water [use speck of cream’ if desired, or add more water]
  • ½ cup copped nuts [almonds or walnuts]

Method

  1. Cream, butter, shortening and sugar.
  2. Add vanilla, almond extract, and flour gradually, beating after each addition.
  3. Add water and nutmeats last, only a drop of water more at a time if necessary.
  4. Shape into oblong size cookies about size of little fingers.
  5. Bake 350 degrees for 15-20 minutes. When cool, roll each cookie in granulated sugar.
  6. Remember that the feel of the dough is very important so cook one cookie in the oven as a test until you get the right constituency.
