Ingredients

  • 2 cups molasses
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1/2 cup boiling water
  • 2 tsp. soda (dissolved in the boiling water)
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. ginger
  • 5 1/2 to 6 cups flour (start by adding 4 cups)

Method

  • Mix ingredients – adding enough flour to make a semi stiff mix.
  • Roll with rolling pin – (if too soft, add more flour, knead and reroll)
  • Cut into rounds with water glass or cookie cutter
  • Bake at 375 F. until done
